The people who provide health and care across Devon are highly valued, not just for their dedication and commitment but to the care and support they provide to our population and communities. The delivery of health and care is dependent on our workforce, working across NHS, Local Authority, Independent or voluntary provider services, volunteers or as carers. Without them we could not provide the care and support we deliver today. This strategy encompasses all these people.
A key enabler in delivering Health and Care is a sufficiently skilled workforce in sustainable numbers. We recognise the current growth of the workforce in Devon is not financially sustainable. To steady workforce growth whilst still meeting the needs of the population, we set the ambition to have a shared language and culture that unleashes people's potential and reimagines traditional workforce models across health and care services.
Longer term we need to invest in the design, development, and implementation of new models of health and care roles that will be required supporting evolving pathways of care and service models. These new models need to challenge traditional thinking and help shape the future.
Our strategy underpins and links to national workforce programmes and policies while seeking out local solutions and innovations supporting the ethos 'The way we do things together in Devon' with strong commitment in the delivery of the strategy principles from our system leaders.
The development of our workforce strategy has been, and is, a journey with a number of steps along the way.
