Self Assessment

The One Devon Workforce Strategy will support the ICB Clinical Strategy and adopts a vision of 'one workforce' across Health and Care.

Following extensive stakeholder engagement five key workforce principles have been developed.

As part of the journey developing the strategy you may have taken part in one of the series of 'Future Facing Scenario' workshops, delivered in collaboration with Health Education England (HEE) and the Staff College. Using output from these workshops and interviews with senior leaders across the system a Workforce Vision for Devon in 2035 has been created to provide an aspirational description of the kind of One Devon Health and Care system that we would like to be working in and living with in 2035. Please take the time to read this to imagine and understand what we are planning for.

To support the next stage of the strategy development we are asking stakeholders to complete a Self Assessment Tool in two parts. The first part comprises self assessment questions related to our strategy principles and is a resource to help you plan at an organisational level. It will show what you are already doing and which aspects of workforce planning require development. Your return will also form essential input to the development of the Workforce Strategy across the Devon system.

The second part relates to the numerical data to form the 2035 workforce 'demand' profile. Some of the job roles may not be relevant to your organisation or area of work and if that is the case you do not need to complete the section relating to that job role.

The template will be shared from December 2022 and we are asking you to complete it by 31st of March 2023 to allow sufficient time to plan, collect and collate your responses. We are asking the relevant lead for strategic workforce planning in the organisation or sector to complete both parts of the tool.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement on this journey. If you have any questions please contact Rachel Gradinger (Workforce Delivery Lead) or Mark Sowden (Associate Director - Workforce Strategy, Planning & Capacity)

A number of drop in workshops are planned to support you with this piece of work - these will be held on Microsoft Teams on the following dates. Please register in advance of attendance on the following links.

Self Assessment - Part One

Self Assessment - Part Two

Once you have read the vision for our health and care system in 2035, and completed the self assessment exercise at Part 1, you are now ready to complete Part Two of the self assessment. Part two asks you and you colleagues to consider the staff numbers and key roles needed to support the 2035 workforce vision both at a system level and at an organisation level. By filling this out, you are helping create a 2035 Devon-wide workforce demand profile.

In advance of this please:

Guidance and questions

You can download both guidance and questions below to facilitate discussions. You have to consider the questions at both a system level and then consider staff numbers and new roles within your specific organisation. Of course, there may be some questions which are not relevant to your organsiation.

Please note that your final return should be made electronically. Your submissions will help to build a picture of what is required both for your organisation, and for One Devon as a whole.
